Child Support
When it comes to child support, it is usually governed by the Federal Child Support Guidelines. The payment of child support depends on a number of factors, including your parenting arrangement, whether primary care or shared parenting. In some cases, there may not be a need to pay child support for a child who is 18 years or older, and this is determined by several factors such as whether the child is in full-time school, whether the child is disabled, or if there are other factors preventing the child from becoming independent. If a child is in part-time school, they may not be entitled to support.
Although the federal child support guidelines provide a framework for calculating child support based on an individual’s earnings, the court may depart from the guideline income in certain cases where there are elements of hardship or the payor is obligated to support other children.

Navigating Custody and Support in Canada: Comprehensive Legal Guidance for Parents
Custody and Decision-Making for Children
There are several parenting arrangements, including primary, shared, split, and parallel, which the court considers in making an informed decision. The best interest of the child is usually the primary consideration in making any parenting decision.
The court also considers several factors in deciding the custody of a child or decision-making for a child, which can either be joint or sole decision-making rights. It’s important to note that a parent’s name not being on the birth certificate does not mean that they do not have any rights over the child.
If you are considering relocating to another city, province, or country with your child, we can assist you in achieving that. There are several requirements that an individual needs to meet before they can relocate, and we can help you navigate these requirements.
